One of the most common questions I get is “What kind of rod should I get? I’m not looking to spend a lot of money but I want a quality rod.” I’m determined that the Mojo series from St. Croix is a great choice. I’ve been using them for the last few years - super high quality rod, at a reasonable price and very durable.
St Croix is known the world over for producing some of the highest quality rods on Earth. Did you know that they also produce some of the best fly rods?
The new St Croix Sole is a unique idea in fly rods. It is a 2 piece fly rod, but the breakdown is unusual. The tip section is where the rod breaks down and the rest of the rod remains a one piece. This is a cool concept for the fisherman that fishes both fly and spin because when you break down the rod, the one piece portion is the same length as all the spinning rods. It is easily transported along with all the other rods.
My favorite rod is a St Croix Legend XTreme Inshore Spinning Rod. I like it in the 7 foot Medium/Heavy action.
Jesse Simpkins of St Croix Rods comes down to visit and test some St Croix Mojo Salt and Mojo Inshore rods on the giant tarpon of the Florida Keys. Mission accomplished!
Check out this SLO MO tarpon jump right next to the boat.
St Croix Rods are the perfect tool for the Florida Keys Tarpon. We like so many of the models, but it is hard to beat the Mojo Salt and Mojo Inshore for outstanding quality, incredibly durable boat rods for a charter boat. Day in and Day out, these things stand up to the abuse of these giant fish and (sometimes) the abuse of the clients.
We can also find incredible craftsmanship in our fishing rods. The first time we used St. Croix it was immediately apparent that their was extreme craftsmanship and care put into every element of the fishing rod. Each rod takes 32 pairs of hands to finish. St. Croix builds most of their rods in Park Falls, Wisconsin here in the United States....
We say, the 7 foot 8 to 17-pound class rod is about your best all around. You can do a little bit of everything from snapper fishing to small Tarpon and everything in between. Then it comes down to what kind of rod. Well, we've trusted St. Croix Rods for quite a few years now and they are just the absolute best quality rods and they make a variety of different model rods from the good, better, and best type model.
