Rigging
I really like to teach people how to do what I do and show them this incredible experience of the fishing on the shallow clear flats of the Florida Keys. I was fishing out of a 16 foot boat, when I started, and I could take a maximum of 2 people at a time.
My question: is there a way I can alter my leader setup to target large redfish while still being able to handle a shark up to 200 pounds and cast long distances?
I see that you sometimes rig your soft plastic flukes and Gulp shrimp with circle hooks. Would you mind explaining how you do this, what the advantages of this setup are, and in what situations to do so? Thank you! Sincerely, Kurt F
Do you use a ball bearing swivel on your line for any of the applications mentioned above to prevent line twist? (2 things I never reel when drag is going and always flip my bail over with my hands) just worried about line twist without ball bearing swivels or snaps.-
Hey Guys I have a few friends that have switched the backings on their reels from dacron to gel-spun. What is the big difference between the two? And what is your preference?
I fish in the Great Lakes. It is often gin clear. What would you recommend for the length of a fluorocarbon leader, the best mono to fluorocarbon knot, and the length of leader? Thank you. Will I get an answer in my email or this site?
If you are going to be in the Florida Keys in May for Tarpon, you are going to need a BUNCH of crabs (which they will have at Hawks Cay) and a few of these rigs ready to go. Here is the exact rig we were using.
We get lots of questions about the right rod, reel, line, knots, hooks and baits, etc... for Permit.
I put this video together to answer all these questions and more.
However...if you have any additional questions and you want an answer from me personally....
Message: I have seen your show on catching tarpon with a floating rig. I would greatly appreciate you explaining how this rig is set up.A diagram of this rig would be great if possible...
You know you are approaching the halfway mark to Key West when the Seven Mile Bridge approaches into view. If this is your first time visiting the Florida Keys, you will quickly notice stretches of unaccessible bridge close by. Built from the instruction of Henry Flagler, Flagler had designed a railway that transported people to Key West, known as the Overseas Railroad. Due to a hurricane in 1935, the railroad bridge was destroyed (now referred to as the Old Seven Mile Bridge) and a new bridge was built in it’s place in 1982 for automobile use only.
