When you think of delicious game fish in the Florida Keys, tripletail is probably not the first thing that comes to mind due to its dinosaur-like appearance. But captains Tom Rowland and Rich Tudor are here to make you rethink that presupposition on this episode of Saltwater Experience … Read more on Waypoint…

Fishing on the flats is can be a challenge to get those skittish fish that face significant fishing pressure and boat traffic. Rich and I will frequently stake out and try two or three times before we can get their attention. Fish like this we refer to as suffering from “lockjaw” as they will refuse to eat.
When Rich and I fish for easily spooked fish we like to get to a strategic location and then stake out there and cast for a bit before moving another 20-30 yards and repeating the process. In this case we use our Power-Poles to stop the boat while we wait for the fish to come within casting range. In some cases we will make enough blind casts to cover a stretch of shoreline or a bottom feature - like an oyster bar, sand hole or other structure.
You know you are approaching the halfway mark to Key West when the Seven Mile Bridge approaches into view. If this is your first time visiting the Florida Keys, you will quickly notice stretches of unaccessible bridge close by. Built from the instruction of Henry Flagler, Flagler had designed a railway that transported people to Key West, known as the Overseas Railroad. Due to a hurricane in 1935, the railroad bridge was destroyed (now referred to as the Old Seven Mile Bridge) and a new bridge was built in it’s place in 1982 for automobile use only.
Located on Duck Key, Hawks Cay Resort is a perfect location for fishing, sight-seeing, and diving. Only a mile away offshore, fishing at Hawks Cay is an easily accessible activity to do at the Florida Keys. Though there is a great variety out in the water, here are my top five favorite fish to catch near Hawks Cay:

Can I use quality bass fishing equipment to fish for red fish?
Most bass tackle will work just fine for redfish. Alot of redfish situations are found in brackish water, rather than full salt, however there are certainly many situations where you will be fishing in pure saltwater. I had the opportunity to fish with the guys on Sweetwater TV recently and they had all freshwater tackle. It worked well for us, but there are a few things that you will want to watch out for:
Whats the best way to filet a dolphin? Do you pull the skin off or cut it off with a knife?
I was ready to give the super quick answer of The Florida Keys, because it is the very best area in Florida to fish year round. When you ask about other areas, I have to say that I don't have as much experience in other areas as I do in the Keys...
Circle hooks are a great option for almost every style of live bait fishing. Circle hooks however require a very specific hookset! Where some hook styles require a large amount of force in order to drive the hook home...

Often when it gets too cold for bonefish or permit on the flats, it might set up a situation that is perfect for something else. Winter conditions bring in bait and predators...
Ed Emory is a veteran guide on the South Fork Of The Snake River in Swan Valley, ID. Ed has solidified his great reputation by winning the Jackson Hole One Fly Tournament as a guide an astonishing 5 times. He is the only person to have done this.
Many may know that I started my guide career on the South Fork about the same time that Ed also began his career. We both love this river and want what is best for it.
