THE BIMINI TWIST
If there is one knot that is associated with saltwater fishing it is probably the Bimini Twist. If there is one knot that is feared and avoided because it seems too difficult to tie it is probably also the Bimini Twist. But if there is one knot that is crucial to the saltwater fisherman it is probably also the Bimini Twist.
What is so special about this knot?
The answer is really nothing. It is not special, it is not magic and it is not really very hard to tie. However, it does do something very well that few other knots can.
The Bimini Twist allows anglers to double the line or make a loop in the line at any length without loosing any strength in the line. This becomes really important when anglers are trying to tie 2 different size lines together. The Bimini doubles the line so you are now using two lines instead of one to tie your knots. This makes them twice as strong.
Bimini's can also be used by themselves to create a light leader of doubled line. I will often use this rig for permit to give me a little extra protection at the hook.
Primarily, though, Bimini Twists are used in conjunction with many other knots to create a very strong connection.
Don't be intimidated by this knot. It may look difficult but it is not at all. Below you will find videos shot in regular speed and also in slo motion so you can follow step by step and see exactly how to tie this knot that every saltwater fisherman should know.
