S14:E7 - “Ballyhoo Sprays” (2019)

Captain Tom Rowland and Captain Rich Tudor spend some time on the reefs in the Middle Florida Keys.

On this particular day there was a strong north wind in the morning. I had spoken to Captain Scott Walker of Into The Blue the night before, he is my go-to to know what is going on offshore. He said that there were so many Balyhoo offshore where the Sailfish will pursue the Ballyhoo and make these big sprays. Scott had told us if the wind went down we should go out there and pursue the sprays some.

In the morning the wind was certainly too strong for us in our Bay Boat. The Bay Boat is an amazing boat, we could go offshore but it is still a low sided boat and we need to be wise. So while waiting for the sea conditions to improve we did some Patch Reef fishing; we used some pilchards to catch some snappers and groupers and we were positioned to go out if the wind dropped.

After a bit of Patch Reef fishing, the wind did go down and we were able to go out and chase some Ballyhoo sprays around offshore. Check out the episode and let us know what you think! It was certainly very exciting to be offshore and go chasing the sprays.

As always, we had Jason Stemple with us to document this trip in ultra high quality still photos.  Here are some of my favorites.  Enjoy!

See you on the water,
