Subject: Good rod for a Daiwa Saltist 4000?

Message: My girlfriend just gave me the best present anyone could ask for, a Daiwa Saltist 4000 and I want to pair it with a good rod. What would be your suggestion? I fish inshore and mostly target reds and snooks. I want a rod that I can sight cast the flats as well as pitch the mangroves or dock fish and not get worked by the occasional overslot red, snook, or grouper. Thanks for the advice, love what you guys do! Would love to come fish with y'all.

JT,

Thanks for the question.

You have an awesome reel in the Daiwa Saltist 4000 and an even better girlfriend that decided to give that to you as a present. Hold on to her!

My favorite rod is a St Croix Legend XTreme Inshore Spinning Rod. I like it in the 7 foot Medium/Heavy action. (Click here to see it on their site) This rod action is really versatile in my fishing.  I use it as my go to rod for Redfish, Bonefish, Permit, Snook, medium tarpon and jack crevalles.  I can throw lures of various sizes comfortably and accurately while having enough backbone to set the hook and fight a large fish.

I like that rod paired to a Daiwa Saltist 40 with 20 pound J braid for 90% of my fishing.

I hope that helps!  Send us a picture of the big fish you catch!
