We often get a lot of questions about how to have a better day on the water. Whether that's catching more fish or bigger fish or whatever. But I can tell you that the best way to have a better day on the water is to start the day out well. A lot of people trailer their boats and a lot of days are kind of ruined at the boat ramp. Boat ramp etiquette is a huge thing and it's really not very hard to do. It just takes a little bit of consideration and a little bit of forward-thinking to where you're prepared when you get to the boat ramp. So when you pull off of the highway and you come to your boat ramp chances are you're not ready to put the boat in so don't go and back right down the middle of the boat ramp.

What you want to do is you want to find a place in the parking lot well away from everyone where someone could easily pull around you and you're not blocking anyone. This is the area where you want to stage your boat. You want to get the lines out you want to put them on the cleats where you're going to tie the boat up you're going to take the straps off. You're going to check your drain plug. That's probably the best tip I could ever give you.

You want to make sure everything is ready to go before you ever get in line to put the boat in. Now, most boat ramps are able to accommodate two or even three trucks. So you don't want to just back right down the middle. You want to try to get off to one side or the other so someone else can use the other side of the boat ramp, then when you get your boat off quickly tied up safely and securely and then get back in your truck and clear out of the ramp. So someone else can use it. Then move back down to your boat and then move it to another area where someone that is putting their boat in right there can use that area right next to the boat ramp. Those are very simple tips. But I tell you what when you watch people at the boat ramp, most people are not doing that. Be a courteous boater and use good boat ramp etiquette.
